From The Castle of Llyr - third book in Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain. After Eilonwy's rescue from the fallen Caer Colur, she gives Taran a silver battle horn, the only remnant of her house, in pledge to remember him until they meet again.

*sappy romantic sigh*

A redux of my favorite Prydain illustration. I've been wanting to perfect this for some time. For those familiar with the original, I'll be geek enough to mention the differences: other than a complete background overhaul, the changes are subtle - slight costume variations, lighting consistency, and anatomy have all been fiddled with. The beauty of digital!

Daily DeviationLast Treasure of LLyr by ~saeriellyn. From the suggester: "A lot of fantasy fans from our generation might have read the late Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles as children. ~saeriellyn's gorgeous painting style captures the essence of the books. She has many such wonderful pieces in her gallery, but "Last Treasure of Llyr" is a personal favorite because of the gorgeous choice of the color and the just overall lovely atmosphere created by the characters' expressions." Wow, love it. Very nice.
I remember the original! and the bg on this one is great. I love this scene, too.

Chemical Blue Fanart Contest - [link] Deadline 31st July!
FINALLY we get to see your masterpiece here on dA! The re-worked version looks even better! I'm not sure if its part of the re-worked bits (haven't seen the original in ages) but I LOVE how you did Eilonwy's hair here! Taran's face looks a little different somewhat too, but overall I'd say I like the subtle changes done here.

This is absolutely my fave piece out of all your Prydain works, I love it to bits. ;) Thanks for re-posting it on dA for all to enjoy!

Absolutely lovely! The colors are gorgeous and the romantic atmosphere is just so... perfect. :aww:

I did have to re-do her hair, at least the flyaway strand parts, but I used the same method as the original so it's not terribly different, though perhaps a little cleaner. There are some subtle changes to their faces, although with Taran it's mostly just adding a little more texture to his skin (and I've already had one comment that I should do this even more).

This is my favorite too! Glad you like it. ;)

That's beautiful - such a lovely concept! I am especially impressed with her facial expression and hair (in fact, I'm quite jealous that you can render hair like that - it looks beautiful). Excellent job!

Thank you! I see you are an EMG artist...I just came off that site, and am now wondering if I should apply. Any advice?

"To live would be an awfully big adventure..."
:) I just did it on a whim, actually... a lot of my stuff is specific character based and so not entirely appropriate for EMG, but this piece in particular would attract Ellen's attention, I think - she likes the romantic stuff ;) Go for it! There's only one way to find out... ;)

This probably wouldn't work, since this is an illustration to a pre-existing book and there would be copyright issues. I have other original work though, that I'm thinking of sending. Thanks!
